If you've gone vegan and don't know where to start, or you just want to be more ethically conscious when you're beauty shopping, we've compiled our list of the very best vegan beauty products.
It might seem like making this choice will be limiting, but luckily there are plenty of brands that are completely cruelty-free, and this number appears to be increasing as animal rights and veganism are becoming central to social consciousness. Drugstore brands B Beauty (Superdrug's own brand), Sleek and Collection are completely cruelty-free. Higher-end brands including Hourglass, Chantecaille and Cover FX are also cruelty free.
However, just because a brand is cruelty-free doesn't mean they are completely vegan.
Many cosmetics contain animal by-products such as beeswax, and common ingredients like retinol, collagen and lanolin are also derived from animal tissue. This can make things really complicated, as even the most ethical brands usually don't have completely vegan ranges, so you have to do your research.
Luckily, lots of vegan blogs and websites such as have compiled lists of the vegan products within cruelty-free brands, to make it that bit easier to navigate, and there are plenty of vegan-friendly brands such as Kat von D, Isle of Paradise and Bybi Beauty.
