Finding an Indian restaurant that is both authentic, stylish and well located is not always easy. Often the best curry houses are tucked away in the back-end of Tooting, not, as Tamarind Kitchen is, perfectly positioned right in the heart of Soho.
Not only is right where you want it to be, it's also stylish. Dim but not too dark lighting creates a date-night atmosphere and the tables are spaciously positioned allowing for an intimate tête-à-tête.
You'll be relieved to know though that it's the food that'll make me book a return visit to Tamarind Kitchen.
Everything we tried was well executed, perfectly but not pretentiously presented and just damn delicious.
All of the dishes exceeded expectations but the tandoori lamb shank was a particular highlight. (Small plates start at £7 and mains are around £20)
Make sure you try some of the varied small plates too, you'll be spoilt for choice but the sea bass needs to make an appearance. I'm still thinking about it now.
A final, gratifying touch is that Tamarind Kitchen also makes a mean cocktail (another feature setting it apart from your local curry house) so make a date out of it and book a Friday night table.
